Tesco announces a program of new green electricity projects. The group is continuing its program of renewable electricity production, announcing the signing of a new contract for 150 GWh of electricity generated by the Stranoch wind farm each year.

The wind farm, built by EDF Renewables UK, began construction this week and is due to be operational in 2026, producing 102 MW, with 20 turbines located on the Dumfries and Galloway site in Scotland.

Thanks to this agreement, Tesco has secured enough clean energy to power the equivalent of more than 80 medium-sized supermarkets for a year.

This latest agreement, known as the Power Purchase Agreement, was put in place by EDF Business Renewables, while another wind farm at West Benhar was officially opened by EDF Renewables in North Lanarkshire at the end of February.

In addition, four previously announced solar farms - two operated by Schroders Greencoat and two by EDF Renewables UK - will begin generating renewable electricity for Tesco. In total, the five new renewable assets coming on stream will add a substantial 300 GWh per year to Tesco's renewable energy portfolio.

The new sites bring the supermarket one step closer to its target of increasing its electricity generation from renewable energy sources.
