Biomass, the development of biomass for energy

Today, the protection of our formidable ecosystem is a major issue that must be taken seriously. "Greenwashing" is a term that is often used to denounce the actions of large polluting companies seeking to improve their image through green investments. Biomass refers to all organic matter, whether plant, bacterial or animal, solid or liquid, that can be transformed into heat. Because of their accessibility, these resources were exploited by man long before their cousins, hydrocarbons. Biomass can be forestry and agricultural residues as well as household or industrial waste. Today, biomass accounts for more than 10% of the energy consumed in the world. The transformation of this material is done either through digesters or methanizers. From biomass, many beautiful things can be made: bio-essences (fermentation of carbohydrates), bio-diesels (oils from oleaginous plants and animal fats), ethanol or even biogas (again with the chemical process of fermentation). This is a relatively fair market from the point of view of resource distribution, however, few countries have industrialized the processing. The production of electricity from biomass is constantly increasing, with strong growth and good prospects. Today, 2% of the world's electricity production comes from biomass, which is twice as much as 10 years ago.
