Nestlé Waters has opened Switzerland's largest agricultural biogas production facility.
The Valbroye plant will provide renewable energy for the nearby Henniez bottled water plant and the Swiss power grid, as well as natural fertiliser for local farms.
The facility will generate enough green electricity to power more than 1,000 households annually.
27 local farms will provide 25,000 tonnes of manure per year to the biogas plant, thereby reducing emissions by 1,750 tonnes per year.
The plant will also recycle and reuse coffee grounds from Nescafé and Nespresso production sites in Switzerland.
Using the electricity generated, the Henniez plant will increase its overall use of renewable energy to more than 50 percent.
