JHB expands its presence in Finland with acquisition of Donier Gastronomie 20 June 2024

Acquisition strengthens JHB's Finnish activities and growth momentum

Johan i Hallen & Bergfalk (JHB), part of METRO 's Food Service Distribution (FSD) portfolio since May 2023, today announced the acquisition of the Finnish FSD specialist Donier Gastronomie (Donier). Signing and closing of the transaction were successfully completed today.

Donier, with a strong presence in major metropolitan regions of Finland, is a recognized premium food supplier with its own elaborate meat production capabilities, cheese competence and growing fish expertise. It serves about 900 local customers nationwide, about 60% of which are hospitality businesses and the rest are traders. The company's distinctive expertise in meat enables it to competently fulfil professional gastronomic needs for burgers, minced meat, dry aging, cutting and packaging.

JHB, serving about 4,000 hospitality customers across Sweden and Finland, was acquired by METRO in May 2023 to strengthen the wholesaler's FSD portfolio. The acquisition of Donier, which generated about 16 million EUR in sales in FY 2023, will significantly enhance JHB's position in Finland and inject strong growth momentum to JHB's Finnish operations. Moreover, it will contribute to JHB's ambition of becoming the leading fresh meat & fish specialist in the Nordics.
