SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) _ Autodesk Inc. (ADSK) on Thursday reported fiscal first-quarter earnings of $146 million.

The San Rafael, California-based company said it had profit of 67 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and amortization costs, came to $1.43 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.33 per share.

The design software company posted revenue of $1.17 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.15 billion.

For the current quarter ending in August, Autodesk expects its per-share earnings to range from $1.54 to $1.60. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $1.51.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $1.22 billion to $1.24 billion for the fiscal second quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $1.18 billion.

Autodesk expects full-year earnings in the range of $6.43 to $6.66 per share, with revenue ranging from $4.96 billion to $5.06 billion.

Autodesk shares have declined 32% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has decreased 15%. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $191.63, a fall of 34% in the last 12 months.
