BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) _ Whirlpool Corp. (WHR) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $298 million.

On a per-share basis, the Benton Harbor, Michigan-based company said it had net income of $4.90. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $6.14 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $5.88 per share.

The maker of Maytag, KitchenAid and other appliances posted revenue of $5.82 billion in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.87 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $1.78 billion, or $28.36 per share. Revenue was reported as $21.99 billion.

Whirlpool expects full-year earnings in the range of $27 to $29 per share.
