VENTURA, Calif., Jan. 13, 2014 - Two new Walmarts will open Wednesday, January 15, offering the community convenient access affordable goods and groceries as well as employing more than 250.  The new Walmart store in Ventura and the Walmart Neighborhood Market in Camarillo will both open after brief ribbon-cutting ceremonies at 7:30 a.m.

The new Ventura store, filling a vacant former retail space, is conveniently located at 1739 S. Victoria Ave. and will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Walmart will open its first store in Camarillo, a small-format Neighborhood Market located at 275 W. Ventura Blvd. in the Camarillo Town Center. The new Camarillo Walmart Neighborhood Market store is approximately one-quarter the size of a Walmart Supercenter.

Both stores will provide local residents with new shopping options and pharmacy services, the Ventura store will focus on general merchandise and the Camarillo store will fulfill grocery shopping needs, including fresh produce, dairy and meats.

"The Chamber is very pleased to have Walmart join our community with the opening of the Neighborhood Market," said Camarillo Chamber CEO Jennifer Wells. "It's always exciting when we get new businesses opening in town, but especially so when it's a business that is creating a wealth of jobs thus contributing to the economic health of our community. The new Walmart Neighborhood Market is doing just that and we are very happy to have them as new Chamber members and look forward to working with them in the future."

"The Ventura Chamber of Commerce is happy to welcome Walmart with an official Ribbon Cutting this Wednesday.  They bring needed new jobs and economic activity to our community and provide an additional affordable retail option for many Ventura residents," said Ventura Chamber CEO Ed Summers.   "We look forward to working with Walmart as they join our thriving business community."

Shopping Convenience

The Ventura Walmart store will feature quality, value-priced general merchandise, including apparel, electronics, toys, sporting goods, and lawn and garden items.

Ventura Pharmacist Judy Quick and her team members offer a full range of products and services, as well as offer advice on available generic prescription alternatives for customers looking for additional savings.

The Camarillo Walmart Neighborhood Market offers quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department and pharmacy. The grocery department includes organic and natural selections, as well as prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, a self-serve deli and sushi.

Camarillo Pharmacist Sujata Varahamurthy and team members can answer product and prescription questions and offer health and wellness solutions for individuals and families.

Community Giving

The grand-opening celebrations include presentations of $16,000 in grants, $8,000 from each store, from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups helping residents live better.

In addition to the grants given as part of the grand opening, the new store will further Walmart's pledge to fight hunger in America. As part of Walmart's and the Walmart Foundation's $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in California donated approximately 10.2 million pounds of food, in fiscal year 2013, or the equivalent of 8.5 million meals. Additionally, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $26.3 million in fiscal year 2013 in California alone.  For more information on Walmart's fight against hunger, visit http://foundation.walmart.com/our-focus/hunger.
