STMicroelectronics: a sensor for the Sphere in Las Vegas
The chipmaker says that the resolution of this 316-megapixel '18 K' sensor is 40 times higher than that of the full-frame sensors found in high-end cameras.
With dimensions of 9.9 cm by 8.3 cm (or 82.4 cm2), the chip is five times larger than an ID photo.
In terms of performance, this system is capable of capturing images at a rate of 120 frames per second and transferring data at a rate of 60 GB per second.
Darren Aronofsky's film 'Postcard from Earth', currently showing at the Sphere, became the first film production to use the Big Sky system.
ST specifies that the sensor comes from its 300 mm wafer manufacturing plant based in Crolles, Isère.
