Verona, 6 July 2021 - Snam4Mobility, Snam's subsidiary operating in the sustainable mobility sector, today inaugurated in Verona its first self-service compressed natural gas (CNG) and biomethane (Bio-CNG) refuelling station, allowing motorists to refuel in complete autonomy, 24 hours a day.

The distributor, managed by Goldengas, will only supply alternative and ecological fuels, including advanced biomethane from the Snam plant in Albairate, in the province of Milan, obtained from organic waste. Biomethane, which will be available at the station in the coming months, is a key renewable source for reducing emissions in the transport sector.

The opening of the plant, the 1500th compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Italy, was celebrated with an event attended by the mayor of Verona Federico Sboarina, the president of NGV Italy Mariarosa Baroni the president of Assogasmetano Flavio Merigo, as well as representatives from the car sector such as SEAT - a reference point within the Volkswagen Group for the development of alternative fuel technology - and from the commercial vehicles sector such as IVECO, companies committed to sustainable mobility using natural gas, as well as from Snam4Mobility and Goldengas.

'This opening marks a new service for citizens and in favour of sustainable mobility, which in recent years we have supported and encouraged at 360 degrees, from cycle paths to recharging stations for electric vehicles, as well as scooters and the doubling of bike sharing stations with electric bicycles' said the mayor of Verona Federico Sboarina. 'This first self-service gas and biomethane refuelling station is part of these initiatives to encourage different habits and create a more environmentally friendly approach'.

'The launch of Snam4Mobility's first natural gas and biomethane self-service refueling station is another important step in our journey to support sustainable mobility in Italy. CNG and biomethane, which already represent more than 25% of the gas used for transport in Italy, have great potential for decarbonising mobility of both people and goods, while also combating pollution', said Andrea Ricci, Senior Vice President Filling Stations at Snam4Mobility.

To enable all motorists to refuel in self-service mode in complete safety, following the issuance of the relevant decree, in November 2020 Snam launched the iovadoametano.it website, a reference portal on the sector of sustainable mobility using natural gas and biomethane, with a special video tutorial.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Snam, Snam4Mobility provides integrated services for sustainable 'smart green' mobility using natural gas and biomethane. To strengthen the distribution network, Snam4Mobility builds compressed natural gas (CNG and Bio-CNG) distribution infrastructure for cars and liquefied natural gas (LNG and Bio-LNG) and hydrogen distribution infrastructure for heavy transport. Snam's 2020-2024 strategic plan envisages the development of 150 new natural gas and biomethane refuelling stations and the launch of the first five hydrogen refuelling stations.
