ITOCHU Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Okafuji, President & CEO; hereinafter 'ITOCHU') opened ITOCHU AOYAMA ART SQUARE in CI Plaza, a commercial facility situated next to ITOCHU's Tokyo Headquarters, in October 2012, aspiring to encourage the next generation, contribute to the community and promote art and culture in Japan and abroad as part of its social contribution activities. A number of exhibitions have since been held in the space.
As part of its support for the Mécénat activities, ITOCHU will participate as a collaborator in the exhibition Alfons Mucha to be held from Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the National Art Center (Minato-ku, Tokyo). To celebrate the event opening, ITOCHU AOYAMA ART SQUARE will also hold an event called FEEL THE Mucha HEART -designs for the people and love for the home country- during the same period to contribute to the creation of local culture.
A leading painter of the late 19th century, Alfons Mucha was also a commercial designer from the Czech Republic, and is widely popular even in Japan as one of the key figures in the Art Nouveau style. ITOCHU AOYAMA ART SQUARE will showcase Mucha's works, mainly commercial posters, which will not be exhibited at the National Art Center, by grouping them into three themes - 'This Is the Mucha Style!' 'The Great Success of Designer Mucha,' and 'Love for the Czech Republic' - The exhibition introduces Mucha's achievements and success as a designer, primarily with private collectors' items in Japan.
ITOCHU hopes that this will be an opportunity to feel Mucha's heart which can only be seen here.
