By Braidwood Station employees support local United Way agencies through payroll deduction and employee raffles.
BRACEVILLE, Ill.- The Daybreak Center of Joliet provides more than 28,000 nights of shelter each year to men, women and children. This year, they will be able to provide 325 more days of shelter thanks to an employee raffle held at Exelon Generation's Braidwood Generating Station.
The money raised will allow the center, which provides 24-hour emergency support to the homeless, reach beyond the 1,000 individuals it served last year.
"We extend a special thank you to the Braidwood generating plant and all of its employees," said Jane Tyschenko-Mysliwiec, assistant director for Daybreak Center. "We truly appreciate their passion for caring and giving."
The raffle generated enough funds for the station to also support Wilmington, Ill. based Trinity Services, Inc., an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
"Our employees have big hearts and a deep sense of giving back to the community," said Dan Enright, Braidwood's site vice president.
The raffle was held in conjunction with Braidwood Station's annual United Way employee giving campaign. In all, Braidwood employees raised $13,000 that was split evenly between the Daybreak Center of Joliet and Trinity Services, Inc. Employees also pledged nearly a quarter million dollars through payroll deductions for sponsored United Way organizations.
Braidwood Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The station's two nuclear energy units can produce a total of more than 2,300 megawatts at full power - enough electricity to power more than 2 million typical homes.
