BALTIMORE - Chimaobi "Chima" Chijioke has been named BGE's vice president of customer operations, responsible for directing strategy, resources, and activities within customer care, claims, and field and meter services.

This is a promotion for Chijioke, who has held several leadership positions at BGE and Exelon over the last decade. He assumed his new role on Jan. 24, 2021, and reports to Tamla Olivier, chief customer officer and senior vice president of customer operations.

"Chima personifies our commitment to providing customers with a premier experience," said Olivier. "In each of his roles at BGE, Chima has consistently inspired his teams and his colleagues across the company to go above and beyond for everyone we consider a customer-and, importantly, to ensure our innovative work is sustainable, aligned with our strategic priorities, and adoptable throughout the enterprise. I'm confident he will continue-and build on-this success as a member of BGE's executive leadership team."

Chijioke was most recently BGE's director for customer care. His team of more than 200 employees was responsible for all external interaction with BGE's residential and small business customers, and for resolving customer issues. In addition, he managed the customer care team when BGE transitioned from its CIS mainframe system to its current Customer Care and Billing system. His other previous positions at BGE include manager of customer relations, manager of utility performance assessment, manager of large customer services, and external affairs manager.

At Exelon, he served as corporate functional area manager, a role where he was responsible for identifying and adopting best practices among Exelon's utilities as well as creating synergies and strategic programs to advance the customer operations division.

"I've felt an especially deep sense of pride working for a company that recognizes the value in treating every customer as the most important customer," said Chijioke. "I'm honored to have earned the opportunity to shape our vision at BGE for a truly distinctive customer service model that is aspirational inside and outside of our industry."

Prior to joining Exelon, Chijioke was associate director for customer care at Verizon Wireless and has held other leadership positions in quality assurance and the hospitality industry.

Chijioke serves as treasurer on the board of Camp Attaway, a nonprofit organization that provides summer camp for children with autism. He also serves as a board member for Leadership Howard County and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Ibadan (Nigeria) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He is also a graduate of executive programs at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and Columbia Business School.

Chijioke lives in Elkridge, Md., with his wife and three children.
