In commodities, Brent crude climbed 0.1% to $87.50 a barrel, and WTI crude rose 0.2% to $84.09 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 1.7% to EUR33.8 a megawatt hour.

The German 10-year Bund yield fell by 1 basis point to 2.58% from 2.588%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury was flat at 4.361%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan's Nikkei 225 index was flat, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 0.9%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite dropped 0.3%.
