Unitil, (unitil.com), a provider of natural gas and electricity to customers in New England, is pleased to announce that it will once again be awarding $5,000 scholarships to five deserving high school seniors pursuing degrees in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Applications are now being accepted for the STEM scholarships offered through the Unitil Scholarship Fund, which benefits students from communities in Unitil's service territories in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

"This is a unique opportunity for Unitil to acknowledge the accomplishments of a select group of outstanding high school graduates and support their interest in STEM-related careers, which are critical to the future of our economy. We hope these scholarships will also ease some of the financial burden facing today's college students," said Unitil Media Relations Manager Alec O'Meara.

Since its inception in 2011, the program has awarded scholarships totaling more than $300,000.

The scholarships will be given for the first year of undergraduate study during the 2022-2023 school year based on several criteria, including academic merit, financial need, other scholarships awarded, outside student activities, hours worked outside of class, and other factors.
