Groups working to bring a little warmth into their communities are being recognised through a new fund from United Utilities.

The Bring Warmth Award has been developed to honour groups and local charities which bring communities together, tackle loneliness and put a smile on local people's faces.

There are five £500 awards to be won - one each for Cumbria, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside.

Activities such as outreach training, workshops, tea dances, food banks, support sessions, home visits and community arts are all eligible.

Louise Beardmore, United Utilities Customer Service Director said: 'In the conversations we have every day with our customers, we know that they often rely on the goodwill and support of people in their own neighbourhoods.

'We offer a Priority Services scheme for customers who need a little extra help and support, and this new awards scheme is in the same spirit. We hope these awards will bring some cheer to the communities we work in.

'We want to help local organisations continue their fantastic work. The award money can be used to help groups with anything that improves local community life for our customers. We look forward to receiving some inspiring entries.'
The Bring Warmth Awards can be entered by any constituted group with an annual turnover of less than £50,000. This includes small groups and projects as well as more established community groups and local charities.
