I'm pleased to announce promotions for four very talented editors on the desk in Washington, effective today.

Margaret Ho, our previous Saturday editor, is now an assistant editor overseeing a team of reporters who cover legal and other issues, including Adam Liptak, Katie Benner, Charlie Savage and Linda Qiu. Margaret and her reporters will work closely with Dick Stevenson's investigative team and will collaborate with other editors and reporters in the bureau.

Margaret has been our Saturday editor since 2019, when she began managing the bureau on deadline during countless frenzied moments of the Trump era. She edited stories on Trump's nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court and the collapse of Afghan peace talks with the Taliban, and helped coordinate coverage in the aftermath of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's death and on Trump's stay at Walter Reed when he had the virus.

Margaret joined the bureau in 2017 as a deputy night editor. Before that she was in Hong Kong, where she edited news and enterprise that originated in Asia. She worked as a grant writer at a charter school in Harlem before she realized she missed being in a newsroom.
