On Thursday 3 November a delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) visited the Snam dispatching center in San Donato Milanese, the technological "brain" of the Italian gas system.

The delegation, composed of ITRE Commission President Cristian-Silviu Bușoi, Vice President Patrizia Toia, and MEPs Massimiliano Salini, Josianne Cutajar, Valter Flego, Isabella Tovaglieri and Nicola Danti, was welcomed and accompanied by Snam CEO Stefano Venier and Snam Senior Vice President for Dispatching & Metering Maria Luisa Cassano.

The visit to the Snam dispatching center is part of a three-day programme of meetings and inspections at industrial plants, research sites and power plants located in Lombardy, as part of an in-depth survey of energy and industrial policies.

The dispatching center, which just this year celebrated its 60th anniversary, is a strategic infrastructure for the management of energy flows along the Italian peninsula: from its operations room, the center monitors and remotely controls the gas transmission network, which stretches over 33,000 km, as well as entry points, compressor stations and storage sites, for a total of about 95 billion cubic metres of gas transported each year, covering the country's household and industrial consumption.
