Siemens Energy AG said Wednesday that it will partner with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA to develop an industrial-scale system to produce hydrogen from renewable sources by integrating an electrolyzer into an offshore wind turbine.
The energy companies will invest approximately 120 million euros ($146 million) over five years in developments that will lead to a fully integrated system. The project is supported by the German government, Siemens Energy said.
"The companies developments will serve as a test bed for making large-scale, cost-efficient hydrogen production a reality," the German energy company said.
