Shell has announced the final decision to invest in Polaris, a carbon capture project at the Scotford Energy and Chemical Park in Alberta, designed to capture 650,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

In parallel, Shell has also decided to go ahead with the Atlas Carbon Storage Hub in partnership with ATCO EnPower, which will permanently store the CO2 captured by Polaris.

These projects, operational by the end of 2028, aim to reduce Shell's emissions, building on the success of the Quest facility, which has captured over nine million tonnes of CO2 since 2015.
