On January 16, 2024, Shell plc announced that a group of 27 investors that own around 5% of the Company shares has co-filed an independent resolution urging the Company to set tighter climate targets. The Company stated that the resolution, led by Follow This, will be brought to a vote at the Company's annual general meeting later this year. The Company added that the efforts to ratchet up pressure on the Company's climate strategy comes as CEO Wael Sawan seeks to boost the Company's profits, partly by slowing down investments in renewables and growing fossil fuel production.

The Company stated that the resolution, which is similar to previous resolutions by Follow This, urges the Company to align its medium-term carbon emissions reduction targets with the Paris Climate Agreement, including emissions from fuels burnt by consumers, known as Scope 3 emissions.
