(Alliance News) - Sanlorenzo Spa announced Monday that it has launched the first unit of the 50Steel, the world's first superyacht that will be delivered in July with a green methanol Reformer Fuel Cell system, capable of powering the onboard zero-emission hotellerie apparatus, the company explained in a note.

50Steel will introduce the HER Hidden Engine Room system, a revolutionary onboard concept that has made it possible to reclaim space to make room for valuable additional living space, changing the boat's traditional layout, according to the note.

The company explained that 50Steel is the first superyacht in the world to accommodate the modular Reformer - Fuel Cell system, developed in collaboration with Siemens Energy, which can transform green methanol into hydrogen and then into electricity to power all of the boat's hotellerie equipment without storing hydrogen on board.

"This revolutionary solution will allow the vessel to generate electricity up to a maximum of 100kW, with propulsion engines and diesel generator off: the system, which is totally carbon neutral, significantly increases the time spent at anchor without diesel fuel consumption, covering in zero emissions about 90 percent of the typical usage time of a superyacht."

Sanlorenzo trades in the green by 1.5 percent at EUR41.30 per share.
