Orange is the first company to choose Renault Twizy for
business travel
- 100 Twizys will join the company fleet in 2012
Orange has since 2006 gradually renewed its fleet - consisting of 35,000 vehicles, of which nearly 23,000 in France - with more carbon-efficient models. The company has introduced a "Green Fleet" catalogue of vehicles with low CO2 emissions. Average emissions are 130 g/km of CO2 per vehicle for the Group, with fleet vehicles in France introduced since 2010 emitting an average 126 g/km. The first Twizys will be provided to employees on a loan basis for urban journeys between sites, starting in the Ile-de-France region.
Vehicles and business travel currently account for roughly 5% of the Group's total energy consumption and nearly 15% of its greenhouse gas emissions. Orange plans to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20% and energy consumption by 15% between 2006 and 2020. These objectives are a key focus of the company's strategic plan, "Conquests 2015", and are monitored monthly by the Group Executive Committee using special indicators and through an energy action plan launched in 2009 including a component on reducing emissions linked to vehicles and business travel.

Confirming Renault's status as an innovative carmaker, Twizy is a new urban mobility solution and a born natural for car-sharing services. Twizy keeps things simple, shipping with a choice of two engines, three trim levels and a reduced number of options. It joined Renault's Z.E. range in March 2012 alongside Fluence Z.E. and Kangoo Z.E., launched in 2011.
Environmental respect and responsible production are key to Renault strategy. Since 1995 the Group has led an environmental policy based on reducing the ecological impact of its vehicles throughout their life cycle, from design and manufacturing to use and recycling at end of life.
Renault committed to launching a complete range of ecological and economical electric vehicles in 2011 as an extension of the Renault eco2 policy introduced in 2007. Last year, then, marked a decisive chapter in Renault history, with the release of Fluence Z.E. and Kangoo Z.E. The Z.E. range was rounded out by Twizy in March 2012 and will soon include ZOE, set for launch in autumn 2012.
A new automotive concept with original architecture, ultra-modern styling and a full-electric drivetrain, Twizy was designed for nipping safely around the city. It has a 100 km range over a standard urban cycle thanks to a 6 kWh lithium-ion battery that recharges when the driver lifts his or her foot off the accelerator. The built-in three-meter charging cable is compatible with 220V domestic sockets and powers up the battery in three and a half hours. Twizy is a continual joy to drive, boasting performance close to that of a 125 cc scooter, and is intuitive to use. It also features car-like levels of comfort and safety, with four wheels, four brake discs, seatbelts and a front airbag.
Ecomobility, an integral part of the business travel
policy
Since 2008 the Orange group has encouraged staff to use the
least polluting transport modes and to make maximum use of
videoconference resources to reduce business travel.
Several Group entities have introduced systems to limit the
use of individual vehicles. Since 2008 employees at the
Orange Village site in Arcueil near Paris have benefited from
a dedicated tool for occasional or regular use of a
carpooling service. A carpooling service was also introduced
for customers via the Orange mobile site in 2010.
Orange has implemented a "Company Travel Plan" in ten regions
in France to improve transport conditions for employees and
rationalize costs linked to vehicles (parking lots,
maintenance and repair, etc.).
In addition, the Group's training catalogue includes
eco-driving courses that show employees how certain driving
styles can reduce the risk of road accidents and limit fuel
consumption and, in turn, CO2 emissions.
