Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is pleased to announce it has extended its Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing capabilities to cover Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) and the measurement and mitigation of these fields.
Certain types of technology can produce intense EMFs, and must be monitored to ensure employees will not be harmed or suffer long-term effects from exposure. This is regulated by the EMF Directive (2013/35/EU) and transposed in the UK Law Reg. 588/2016, which deals with the human exposure at a workplace and the measurements of such fields to ascertain that a working environment is a safe place for employees. The Directive is applicable to all workplaces and it is a legal requirement to measure and mitigate against the potential effects of EMFs on workers. The UK regulation provides data such as Action Limits which have to be met, to declare a working environment as a safe place for workers in terms of the electromagnetic environment.
This latest development will see Intertek invest in EMF measuring equipment at its state-of-the-art EMC facility in Leatherhead, UK. Intertek has been supporting clients globally with their EMC testing and certification requirements for over 15 years. Intertek operates 23 EMC testing facilities - the world's largest network of EMC test labs - featuring 3m, 5m and 10m semi-anechoic chambers, as well as 3m, 10m and 30m open area test sites (OATS). As a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) under OSHA, Intertek is a certification body in the CB Scheme with additional accreditations from the FCC, SCC, IC and more. Through its accreditations, capabilities, and global reach, Intertek's EMC services improve customers' time and cost efficiencies to enhance their product's competitive edge.
Ayush Dhital, Intertek Business Line Leader - Electrical & Network Assurance said: 'We are delighted to now be in a position to support our customers with their EMF requirements. The safety and health of employees is paramount and EMF is a growing concern in the workplace. With our extended capabilities and systemic Total Quality Assurance (TQA) solutions, we will be able to help our clients measure and mitigate against the effects of EMF, ensuring they comply with their legal obligations.'
