Eutelsat: satellite passivation completed
The decommissioning activities carried out by the mission management teams enabled the satellite to be safely positioned.
In 2012, the satellite was renamed Eutelsat 5 West A and has been operated in inclined orbit since the end of 2019, extending its in-orbit life.
In January 2020 began the gradual migration of services to the new Eutelsat 5 West B satellite, as well as to other satellites in the Eutelsat fleet in order to be able to guarantee customers seamless continuity of services.
Eutelsat 5 West A has supported the transition to digital television, particularly in France, where analog television gave way to digital transmission technology in the early 2000s.
Eva Berneke, CEO of Eutelsat, said: ' The satellite's overall service availability has reached 99.999%, which testifies to the tremendous work and commitment of all the Eutelsat teams who have combined their efforts over the years to make this mission a success. '
