Elektro announced that it will invest BRL 7 million (USD 2.9 million /EUR 2.1 million) in digitalisation of nine power substations in its concession area in the southeastern Sao Paulo state by the end of 2014. The substations will have a new technology implementing the IEC61850 protocol, which foresees the total integration between the substations and the operating centre, allowing the facilities to operate under the smart grid concept. The modernised substations will be Araras 2, Aruja, Cordeiropolis, Cunha, Francisco Morato, Mogi-Guacu 2, Pariquera-Acu, Pirapozinho and Sao Joao da Boa Vista 1.
