Creating a space that brings people together is very much a prerequisite for those involved with the design of any new development.

In Bath, famous for its classical terraces and light-coloured stone, coming up with a contemporary interpretation that reflects the needs of a modern city while respecting the local architecture is also something that has to be high on the agenda for landscape designers and architects.

Fortunately, those in charge of creating the city's most important development in a generation, are well on the way to establishing a community where those who now call it home are making the most of the communal areas, boulevards, parks and pedestrian walkways.

And with many areas of Bath Riverside now complete, it seems the design and layout of the landscape has had the desired effect on those who now live there, with many saying that the open spaces and communal areas was one reason why they decided to move.

Christine Hamilton, sales advisor at Crest Nicholson said: 'A lot of our customers often pop in to have a chat and it's interesting to hear their thoughts now that they're settled in.

'Many say that moving here has given them a new lease of life. They've met new people, made new friends and are out and about enjoying the space that has been created. It's great to see how the land has been reclaimed and how the community here has grown.

'Being so close to the centre also allows people to walk to the many attractions that has made Bath one of the most sought after places to live in the UK.

'It's heart-warming to hear people talk about how much they're enjoying life here and with some exciting new phases yet to be launched the sense of community is set to grow even stronger.'

Instrumental to the development's layout has been the team from Bath-based landscape designers Grant Associates.

Claire Hobart from Grant Associates added: 'The approach towards the design was how could the development better connect with nature.

'There have been lots and lots of elements to consider when looking at the landscape design and we have been conscious to include a sense of green at the end of every street.

'As we work close by, the team is always on site taking a look around while enjoying the space. It's also nice to hear comments from members of the public, especially those who haven't perhaps been down to the area for some time.'

And it seems the work undertaken by all those involved has resulted in Bath Riverside being Voted the Best Development in the UK at the prestigious WhatHouse? Awards.

Christine added: 'Although it's nice to win awards and be recognised by those in the industry the main reason we're here is to help people find their dream home. The year ahead promises to be a very exciting one and we're looking forward to showing people around this fantastic new addition to the Bath city scape.'
