PARIS - To mark European Disability Employment Week, the Bouygues group is renewing its support for Claire Supiot (supported by Bouygues SA), Nantenin Keita, Typhaine Solde and Gwladys Lemoussu (supported by Colas).
Through their careers and personalities, these four parasports athletes inspire and encourage people to surpass themselves. And they will continue to embody the goals the Group wants to give to its Disability Policy, through its 'Starting B.' initiative, until 2024.
Since 2021, Bouygues has boosted its disability-friendly policy. Called 'Starting B.' (in reference to starting blocks), this Group initiative implements awareness-raising actions on the theme of disability with the help of athlete ambassadors. The initiative invites employees to look at disability in a different way so that everyone can find their place in the workplace.
PODCASTS FOR THE SECOND SEASON OF 'STARTING B'
With these four inspiring champions the Bouygues group wants to inspire its employees and encourage listeners to push themselves further through a series of podcasts available on Spotify, Deezer, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts. In these podcasts they will talk about the qualities that contributed to their success and helped them achieve their goals. By drawing on their own strengths, these champions, who all participated at the last Paralympics, have succeeded in overcoming their disabilities with energy, determination, courage and optimism to reach, each in their own way, the top level in their respective disciplines (swimming, athletics, triathlon).
Through this initiative, the Group also intends to reiterate its disability commitments. In 2019, Martin Bouygues signed the national Manifesto for the occupational integration of people with disabilities, which aims to ensure that disabled people are better catered for in the workplace. Bouygues then boosted its commitment to diversity and the fight against all forms of discrimination by signing the Diversity Charter in 2022.
The Bouygues group supports these champions who want to shine a different light on disability. Because our differences are a strength, come and work for us!
Claire Supiot, sponsored by Bouygues SA, is a multiple champion of France in able-bodied events, a European champion, twice a bronze medal winner at the world championships, and a world recordwoman in the S8 category for 100m freestyle swimming. In 2009, she was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. After competing as an able-bodied swimmer in the Seoul Olympics, her hard work paid off and 33 years later, she was a finalist in the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics. Claire Supiot is also a disability officer for the Maine-et-Loire departmental council in France and is preparing for the 2024 Paris games.
Nantenin Keita, sponsored by Bouygues Construction, is an iconic figure in France's para-athletics team, a four times medal winner at the Paralympics, including a Gold in Rio in 2016, and a three-times champion at both World and European championships. Nantenin was born albino with a visual impairment. She works as a Quality of Life and Working Conditions officer for a French mutual insurance group near Paris. She is also president of the Salif Keita Foundation, which works to improve the lives of albinos in Africa.
Typhaine Solde, sponsored by Bouygues Immobilier, began competing as a parasport athlete in 2016, three years after an aggressive cancer required a below-the-knee amputation at the age of 11. Typhaine did judo when able-bodied, then became a handball player (as a goalkeeper with a prosthetic limb). She is now a sprinter and long jumper and, at only 20 years of age, one of the brightest hopes in French para athletics. In 2021, she took 9th place in the Tokyo Paralympics and 5th in the European Championships. She is currently doing a work-study placement at Bouygues Immobilier in central France. Nantenin Keita and Typhaine Solde have a strong chance of taking part in the World Para Athletics championships to be held in France, at the Charlety stadium in Paris, in July 2023.
Gwladys Lemoussu, sponsored by Colas, won bronze in the para-triathlon at the Rio Paralympics in 2016 and finished 6th at the Tokyo Paralympics. Despite having undergone an amputation of the lower left arm, she is extremely ambitious and overflows with energy. Her motto is: 'Nothing is impossible'. This is particularly true when it comes to getting on to the winners' podium for triathlon (swimming, cycling, running). She has won the French championships eight times and was a top-three finisher in 39 international events.
