BMW AG and Daimler AG have announced that they are reportedly planning a deeper collaboration for parts sourcing. The 2008 collaboration was focused on individual pieces that are typically never directly seen by owners, a strategy that was intended to maximise each brand's individual identity. Both firms also collaborated on hybrid powertrain development, but the project wound down following the 2008-2009 industry crisis.
