Bank of America and (RED) today announced a partnership extension to include an additional $10 million over five years to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This investment will continue efforts to raise awareness and funds to help end mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Africa.

Since the partnership's January 2014 launch, Bank of America has contributed $10 million to the Global Fund through its activities with (RED). With the expansion, the overall total will reach $20 million by 2020, providing women living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa access to life-saving antiretroviral medication (ARV), enabling them to lead healthy and productive lives and preventing the virus from passing to their unborn children.

'As (RED) celebrates its 10 anniversary, we've seen tremendous progress in the fight to end HIV and AIDS. But we know there is much more to be done,' said Anne Finucane, vice chairman, Bank of America. 'Our work with (RED) is an example of how partnership and collaboration are essential to creating sustainable solutions for the world's biggest challenges.'

The extension builds on a successful two-year partnership with Bank of America and (RED) that has included several activities to drive awareness and raise funds. These include a photo exhibition last November featuring images taken by internationally renowned photographer Rankin of mothers and children in Zambia who are now healthy because of the efforts of the Global Fund. The photographs were featured in Bank of America financial centers, on ATM screens and on the homepage of the bank's website, as well as in an outdoor art exhibit in New York City's Bryant Park during the holiday season.

The partnership was originally launched at the Super Bowl in February 2014. Bank of America contributed $1 for every free download of the new U2 song 'Invisible.' The song was downloaded 3.1 million times in 36 hours.

The money raised by (RED) is used to finance Global Fund grants that fight AIDS in eight African countries - Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia. Those grants fund programs which provide treatment, testing, and prevention and care services, with a focus on ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV and achieving an AIDS-free generation. Of the more than $350 million generated by (RED), 100 percent has gone directly to the Global Fund.
