American Airlines and LATAM Airlines Group announced that they plan to file for regulatory approval to launch a joint business that will offer an expanded network to both American and LATAM customers. The companies said they intend to file for antitrust immunity at the U.S. Department of Transportation and local authorities in South America. If the joint business is approved, American will provide LATAM customers greater access to cities in the U.S. and Canada via its key hubs while LATAM's hubs in South America will provide American Airlines customers greater access to cities in South America.

The joint business will also create opportunities for new direct service to underserved locations and for greater frequencies on existing routes.
