On June 11, AAC Technologies (AAC) and Honda jointly exhibited in CES Asia 2019 and together launched a brand new acoustics solution for automotive named Personal Sound Zone (PSZ), to enable customized sound for each occupants without interfering with each other.

Honda held a news conference this morning and announced that this technology was developed jointly with AAC Technologies and it was an onboard and independent sound field control technology which controlled the directions of in-vehicle audio for each passenger through elaborated positioning of speakers and fine control of each speaker, creating a more private mobility space for each passenger inside.

AAC's Personal Sound Zone (PSZ) technology is embedded in a digital cockpit, a mockup cabin built by Honda to realize 4 scenarios including navigation, personal music, back-seat cinema experience and front-seat mute. A driver can simply start navigation whenever necessary without being interrupted by other occupants who are listening to music; also different users can listen to different music at the same time; while the back-seat passengers are watching movies, occupants in the front seats could mute the sound in their own zones.

This is the first project where AAC Technologies and Honda Xcelerator work together. Today in-vehicle sound is shared, and customization for each occupant is not yet available. Yet the Personal Sound Zone (PSZ) solution, developed by AAC Technologies, makes it possible to provide highly directional sound so that select sound is delivered only to select occupants. In the future, as autonomous driving grows, AAC envisions more immersive content including movies to be readily available to every occupant. Sound will go from being an in-vehicle experience to an 'in-movie' or 'live concert' experience. PSZ technology makes automotive smarter and offer more enjoyable experience for users!
