The leading German index opened 0.1 percent lower at 14,870 points on Wednesday. "The Dax has the chance today to record a third day of gains in a row," said Thomas Altmann, portfolio manager at asset manager QC Partners. The last three-day winning streak was six weeks ago.

Several DAX companies presented figures before the stock market opened. Deutsche Bank exceeded analysts' expectations with its result despite a decline in profits. As a result, the share gained 4.4 percent, making it the biggest winner on the DAX. Beiersdorf, on the other hand, failed to impress. The shares lost 2.6 percent.
