Cutting-edge goods yard with fire-fighting system for dangerous goodsRivalta Scrivia station re-activated

Rivalta Scrivia, June 12, 2024 - Tracks double between Rivalta Scrivia and Tortona, a new station and an evermore cutting-edge goods yard at Rivalta Scrivia.

Operating from today, and in line with the time plan, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, the leading company of Polo Infrastrutture of Gruppo FS Italiane, Italferr as the High Surveillance and Work Management representative, and the General Contractor led by the Webuild Group, with the coordination of the Italian Government Commissioner Calogero Mauceri, have now completed works both on the Pozzolo Junction-Rivalta Scrivia-Tortona section and for the railway goods yard.

The activation of the second track completes and increases the efficiency of the Pozzolo Junction-Rivalta Scrivia-Tortona section that represents the final 8.5 km heading north of theTerzo Valico dei Giovi project(the first track was inaugurated last January).

The restyling activities of the Rivalta Scrivia station have also been completed. The station is now ready to be used by passengers with new sidewalks adjusted to European standards and with lifts serving tracks 1, 2 and 3, to ensure that all visitors, even those with reduced mobility, can access trains with greater ease; there are also new shelters and requalified underpasses.

According to the new Master Plan, during the various work phases, 4 new 750-m-long tracks were built to accommodate the longer European freight trains; also, the double access to the Junctions (RTE and Logistics Hub) at the station that allow strengthening the existing goods yard and for parking longer trains. To these interventions, from today, there is also the addition of a new track with a modern fire-fighting system that can manage the transport of dangerous goods, which therefore further increases the potential of the yard itself.

The closeness to the Alessandria-Piacenza railway line and the to-be Terzo Valico dei Giovi HS/HC line - Genoa Junction, will allow freight trains to reach the new Rivalta Scrivia yard favouring the logistics hub development that stands as a fundamental logistics node for the territory.
