The WAGABOX® unit on the Veolia landfill was commissioned less than 18 months after the contract was signed

In March 2022, Waga Energy commissioned a large capacity WAGABOX® unit on a Veolia landfill located in the city of Claye-Souilly, near Paris. It will produce 410,000 mmBtu (120 GWh) of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) per year, equivalent to the consumption of 20,000 households, and will save 25,000 metric tons of CO2eq emission per year, through the substitution of RNG for fossil-based natural gas. The RNG production will be injected directly into the GRDF gas grid.

This is the largest RNG production unit in France and one of the largest in Europe.

The Claye-Souilly project is one of four developed in France by Waga Energy through its partnership with Veolia, a world leader in waste management. A WAGABOX® unit is already in operation in Saint-Palais (Central France), with two others under construction in Le Ham (Northern France) and Chatuzange-le-Goubet (Eastern France).

The Veolia Claye-Souilly landfill is the largest facility in the partnership portfolio, recovering and treating up to 1.5 million metric tons of waste annually. It is already equipped with a waste to energy plant converting the biogas produced into heat and electricity. With the commissioning of the new RNG production unit, the site's total annual energy production will increase to 812,000 mmBtu (238 GWh), a 40% increase on current energy supply.

Mathieu Lefebvre, co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Waga Energy, adds: "The commissioning of this high-capacity unit at the Claye-Souilly industrial ecology hub marks a new milestone in our five-year collaboration with Veolia. We are delighted to combine our unique gas engineering expertise with the capabilities of a world leader in waste treatment, to develop a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. By producing biomethane, a pillar of energy transition, we are taking concrete action against global warming and helping to strengthen our country's energy independence."
