Volkswagen plans to release the e-Golf, an electric version of the Golf hatchback, in Japan in mid-2017. An updated model was unveiled at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show. In addition to the e-Golf, at least five new versions of the Golf, Up!, and other models will be rolled out by VW in Japan in the year 2017. The latest e-Golf features the updates of the 2018 model-year Golf facelift, as well as a 50% greater driving range and a new 9.2-inch infotainment system with standard gesture control. The model's lithium-ion battery capacity has been increased to 35.8 ekWh, from 24.2 ekWh in the prior model, with range extended to 200 km (124.2 miles) on one charge.
