STOCKHOLM--Swedish truck maker Scania launched Erinion, a new company specializing in charging infrastructure to help customers transition to electric transport.

Erinion aims to install and operate 40,000 chargers by 2030, primarily at customer depots and other predefined destination locations to compliment public charging networks, Scania said Tuesday.

"This will significantly contribute to the 240,000 - 265,000 chargers needed for European fleet hubs by 2030," it said.

The new company will provide chargers, grid connections and installation, as well as offering customers access to integrated software and hardware, operational services and support. It will take a brand-agnostic approach, allowing any vehicle brand to use the services.

Erinion will establish a market presence in Sweden, Norway, the U.K., the Netherlands, France and Germany, with a global rollout to follow.

Scania, majority-owned by Volkswagen, said Erinion will promote the transition to zero-emission fleets and will be key to reaching its ambition for 50% of its sales volume in Europe to be electric by 2030.
