LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/-- From the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Vidyo is teaming with Verizon Wireless to showcase sophisticated HD videoconferencing over a 4G LTE network that can help make shopping more fun for consumers and more profitable for retailers. The Vidyo(®)-based retail kiosk demo is part of the Connected Retail Experience demo in the Verizon booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Booth #30259).

In the Connected Retail Experience, a Virtual Personal Stylist (VPS) shows how shopping for new clothes can become both an easier and a richer experience over the 4G LTE network. The VPS is a concept from the ng Connect Program, founded by Alcatel-Lucent with more than 125 member companies, including Vidyo.

Using Vidyo's innovative HD, low-latency videoconferencing technology in conjunction with the Verizon 4G LTE network, shoppers - or, in this case, CES attendees - can interact through a sleek, futuristic retail kiosk to select flattering, stylish and coordinated clothing. After a shopping avatar helps a shopper narrow style and color selections to three options, the shopper can interact live, via Vidyo technology, with a human fashion consultant who can see and interact with the shopper in the same way as if he or she were there in person.

In addition to being able to interact live with the shopper via HD videoconferencing - seeing the shopper's hair color, style, etc. - the fashion consultant can base his or her advice on additional information available via the 4G LTE network, including the shopper's previous purchases, coordinating accessories offered by different suppliers, and whether an item the shopper is considering for a special event (e.g. a prom or large charity event) has already been purchased by another attendee of that event.

Ofer Shapiro, chief executive officer and founder of Vidyo, said, "The Connected Retail Experience is a brilliant example of how Vidyo's fluid, natural videoconferencing technology can be made even more useful and effective when married with ancillary data available at the same time over the Verizon 4G LTE network. CES attendees will be treated to a vivid preview of how these innovative technologies might eliminate the tedious aspects of shopping while making it simpler and more pleasant to choose clothes that fit and look good."

Verizon Wireless leads the way in 4G with the largest 4G LTE network and most reliable 4G network in the United States, which now covers more than 200 million people in 190 markets.

Verizon established its Innovation Program to encourage collaboration and help advance the 4G LTE ecosystem. The company's LTE Innovation Center in Waltham, Mass., and its Application Innovation Center in San Francisco were created to inspire, enable and develop non-traditional devices, services and applications that take advantage of Verizon Wireless' industry-leading wireless networks. Through the Innovation Program, Verizon seeks to expand the possibilities of 4G LTE by working with diverse companies, from start-ups to established players, in industries representing a broad range of verticals.
