LAS VEGAS, BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and EDISON, N.J., Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- From the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Verizon Wireless and HDlogix will be demonstrating ImageIQ at the Verizon booth (Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall, Booth #30259).

Since the advent of 3D technology, its popularity has grown at a tremendous rate as demonstrated by the ever-increasing volume of 3D films that continue to hit theaters. As a participant in the Verizon Innovation Program, Verizon and HDlogix are investigating how to leverage 3D video content with Verizon's 4G LTE network and advanced mobile devices. HDlogix provides a bridge to cross the chasm of quality, cost and availability of 3D content.

With ImageIQ technology, the capability now exists to produce superior quality 3D content (pre- and post-production, near real-time and real-time) in a cost-effective way. ImageIQ technology literally creates a new dimension for video. Drawing on HDlogix's expertise with superresolution that converts standard definition (SD) video to full-bandwidth HD video and ImageIQ's GPU-based, real-time optical flow and image structure analysis capabilities, it is now possible to convert 2D video into 3D video in real-time with no intervention. ImageIQ reconstructs the geometry of the video scene from regular video in order to create true 3D stereo video for any 3D video display -- even glasses-free "autostereoscopic" 3D displays.

Current methods used to perform conversion are manual, labor-intensive and expensive -- in many cases topping $100,000 per footage minute. ImageIQ 2D-to-3D technology does the real-time conversion in a cost-effective way, for all current 3DTV formats and even the newly emerging holographic displays.

Another component of the ImageIQ product is a bandwidth reduction technology, reducing the payload size significantly without impacting the quality of the content delivered.

Verizon established its Innovation Program to encourage collaboration and help advance the 4G LTE ecosystem. The company's LTE Innovation Center in Waltham, Mass., and its Application Innovation Center in San Francisco were created to inspire, enable and develop non-traditional devices, services and applications that take advantage of Verizon Wireless' industry-leading wireless networks. Through the Innovation Program, Verizon seeks to expand the possibilities of 4G LTE by working with diverse companies, from start-ups to established players, in industries representing a broad range of verticals.

The Verizon Developer Community (VDC) is for developers who wish to work with Verizon to distribute their apps through the company's mobile storefront, Verizon Apps.
