Visa Inc. is scheduled to report earnings for its fiscal-first quarter on Thursday. Here's what you need to know:


--REVENUE: Revenue for the three months ended Dec. 31, 2022 is expected to climb to $7.70 billion, according to FactSet. This compares with reported revenue of $7.06 billion a year earlier.

--ADJUSTED EARNINGS PER SHARE: Stripping out one-time items, the digital payments company's earnings per share are anticipated to be $2.01, according to FactSet. This compares with reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.81 a year ago.


WHAT TO WATCH:


-PAYMENTS, CROSS-BORDER VOLUMES: The market will watch closely Visa's payments and cross-border volumes, which rose 20% and 40% on a constant-dollar basis, respectively, a year earlier.

-TRANSACTIONS PROCESSED: The total number of transactions processed by Visa is set to provide insight into the state of the economy in the last three months of 2022. A year ago, transactions processed stood at 47.6 billion. They stood at 49.3 billion in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2022.

-GUIDANCE: The market will look for comments on the company's expectations for fiscal 2023, which can be considered a reflection to the outlook of the global economy in terms of customer spending patterns.

-COMPETITION: Mastercard Inc. is also set to publish its quarterly results Thursday, with American Express scheduled to report on Friday.
