Usiminas is moving ahead with plans to halt production at its Cubatao plant, ending output of crude steel to focus on rolled steel. Usiminas said in a statement that 2,000 direct jobs will be cut, but did not say how many indirect positions will be lost. The decision to close the plant was announced in December.
At the time the company said the process will take three to four months to complete.
