United Airlines has announced net income of $2,618 million for 2023, compared with $737 million for the previous financial year. The company is helped by a 19.5% increase in business, with sales reaching $53.7 billion.

As a result, EPS for 2023 rose to $7.89 from $2.23 in 2022, and adjusted EPS to $10.05 from $2.52 a year earlier, in line with expectations announced at the beginning of the year (the adjusted EPS target was set at between $10 and $12).

Despite unpredictable headwinds, we achieved our ambitious EPS target that few thought possible - and set new operational records for our customers," said Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines. "Looking ahead, we expect these trends to continue, and United is incredibly well positioned to capitalize on them and achieve our short- and long-term financial goals."

Fourth-quarter sales came in at $13.6 billion, up 9.9% on the same period a year earlier, while net income fell 28.8%, from $843 million to $600 million.
