As part of its commitment to identify, quantify and reduce methane emissions from its operations, TotalEnergies announces that it has partnered with the University of Colorado to develop an international protocol for qualifying methane emissions measurements.

This transatlantic initiative addresses the fact that there is currently no common standard for validating methane emissions measurement methods, which is essential for comparing reported emissions across technologies.

TotalEnergies and the University of Coloradocollaborate to develop a protocol to certify the accuracy, detection limits and operational restrictions of measurements used for methane accounting, and to develop a method for estimating annual methane measurements from spot measurements.

'Reducing methane emissions requires accurate quantification of these emissions. It is therefore essential to define a standard to certify the accuracy of measurements and compare measurements between equipment and continents", said Marie-Noëlle Semeria, R&D Director at TotalEnergies.
