Torrent Power SEC Ltd (Torrent Power) formerly The Surat Electricity Company Limited is engaged in the generation, production and distribution of electrical power. The Company serves the healthcare and power industry. Torrent has a generation capacity of 1630 MW (500 megawatts operational, 1130 megawatts under implementation) and distributes over 10 billion units of power annually to Ahmadabad, Gandhi agar and Surat, the industrial and commercial hubs of Gujarat. Torrent Power is setting up an 1130 megawatts SUGEN CCPP near Surat in Gujarat. The Company is also engaged in the distribution franchise business. Torrent Power entered into distribution franchisee agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited for Bhiwandi Circle in December 2006.
