Please join us in welcoming two new members of the Video department: Muyi Xiao and Nailah Morgan.

Muyi Xiao is joining the Visual Investigations team as a video journalist. Muyi will continue the impressive investigative work she has contributed to the team over the last year.

Muyi has been working with the Visual Investigations team since 2019. She played a key role in the groundbreaking investigations into a Uighur labor program, the aggressive police response to protesters in Philadelphia, and in documenting how the police killed Rayshard Brooks. Muyi's knowledge, expertise and skills were key to the Visual Investigation team's coverage of the coronavirus pandemic. She documented how Chinese citizens were fighting censorship to tell the truth about Covid-19 and how the Chinese government used its propaganda machine to push alternate narratives about the disease, as well as exclusively reported that persecuted Uighur laborers were producing P.P.E. that was shipped around the world.

Muyi grew up in China and worked there, first as a photo editor for Reuters, then as a multimedia reporter for Tencent. In 2017, she relocated to New York City to work as the visuals editor at ChinaFile, and in 2015, she was awarded the Magnum Foundation/New York University Photography and Human Rights Fellowship. After the fellowship, she attended the International Center of Photography for one year. In 2019, she co-founded Chinese Storytellers, a community supporting and elevating Chinese professionals in the global news media industry. She is an active member of the visual storytelling community and is the jury chair of the 2021 World Press Photo Digital Storytelling Contest.
