Stonehenge, The Tower of London, Snowdonia and Arthur's Seat emerged in a list of places Brits plan to visit for the FIRST time this summer, according to a new study from Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels.

With millions of Brits having their foreign holiday plans cancelled, new research from the leading hotel group shows that nearly TWO THIRDS (63 percent) of the nation are planning to holiday in the UK this year, with four in ten (38 percent) admitting it's a great opportunity to visit parts of the country they've never seen before.

The top choices for a holiday destination include Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, Brighton Beach, the Lake District and Padstow and Rock in Cornwall.

Also high on the list are the Yorkshire Dales, Jersey, Stonehenge, The Tower of London, the stunning beach of Durdle Door and Snowdonia.

35 percent of respondents even went as far to say that there's nowhere more beautiful than Britain in the summer, also citing the Peak District and Ben Nevis among the ultimate list of British holiday destinations.

In fact, 37 percent confess they are actually LOOKING FORWARD to a good old-fashioned British break.

In addition, people have been busy making bucket lists throughout lockdown, and now restrictions are easing, Brits can begin ticking them off.

City breaks are also a popular choice this summer, with many Brits hoping to soak up history at the Roman Baths in Bath (17 percent) and to discover the history of Edinburgh Castle (16 percent).

We'd also like to enjoy a walking tour of the Quayside, Newcastle, stroll through and enjoy Blenheim Palace in Oxford and indulge in an ice cream at Bovisands Beach in Plymouth.

One third would like to enjoy long walks in the Lake District (33 percent), 32 percent want to stroll through the town of Padstow and 29 percent would like to experience a trip to Jersey. We're also keen to walk along Hadrian's Wall and to see or even climb Ben Nevis.

Suzanne Cannon, Group Marketing Manager of Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels said: 'It appears that the nation is feeling positive and even looking forward to a British break this year. It's no surprise really as the UK is home to some beautiful sights and plenty of 'bucket list' activities that the whole family can enjoy.

Also featuring on the list of ultimate UK holiday destinations this year is the Dawlish Beach in Exeter and the Albert Dock in Liverpool.

Brighton Pier, Cardiff Castle, Scott Monument in Edinburgh and Exmouth Beach in Exeter were also revealed to be among the top places to visit this summer for Britons.

Having to holiday at home has got Brits feeling nostalgic, as 65 percent cite enjoying fish and chips eaten out of newspaper and an ice cream at the beach (59 percent) as the perfect 'ingredients' for a traditional British summer holiday.

The nation is also looking forward to sitting in a countryside pub beer garden (40 percent), getting a bit sunburnt (26 percent) and even getting lost on country roads (23 percent).

When asked about why they plan to holiday in the UK this summer, 43 percent of respondents admit they feel safer staying on home turf instead of going abroad.

In fact, 39 percent say they think a British break can actually be really enjoyable, while 36 percent want to support the UK economy by staying here.

And as the uncertainty around Covid-19 and the 'new normal' continues, 34 percent of Britons say they are open to taking more holidays in the UK rather than jetting abroad in the future, with 36 percent worrying that our holiday choices could be affected for YEARS thanks to the pandemic.

For those who would consider holiday more on home turf in the future, 44 percent confess they don't want to travel abroad again for some time due to the impact of Covid-19. 39 percent feel safer staying in the UK and 35 percent admit they don't want to get stranded abroad if the virus has a second wave.
