Telus said Tuesday that it plans to invest 24 billion Canadian dollars ($17.62 billion) to upgrade and improve its network infrastructure and operations in the province of Ontario over the next five years.

The investment is part of the Canadian telecom company's C$73-billion commitment to invest across Canada to develop infrastructure, advance network technology and improve sustainability.

As part of the improvements, Telus plans to enhance its 5G network in the province by increasing the number of new cell towers, including expanding coverage in Ottawa and Windsor.

Last week, Telus announced a similar plan to invest C$17 billion in British Columbia.
