Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has been awarded a contract to supply 132kV submarine power cable for Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, located approximately 15 km off the North Coast of Wales.

This represents another milestone for Sumitomo Electric in enhancing the quality and reliability of offshore wind transmission systems in the UK.

Sumitomo Electric has demonstrated a proven track record in the development of renewable energy and the trade of such energy between European countries and regions. This includes the successful commissioning of the 1000-megawatt NEMO HVDC interconnector between the UK and Belgium in 2019, followed by five years of successful operation with outstanding performance of 99.5% system availability. The contract for Gwynt y Môr will further strengthen its position in the renewable energy market.
