On June 6th, I had the opportunity to meet with United States Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel. This meeting came about because of Sumitomo Electric's involvement in businesses related to the semiconductor industry, which is of great importance to both the US and Japan.
At the meeting, I provided Ambassador Emanuel with an overview of the Sumitomo Electric Group's major businesses, our affiliated companies in the US, and how our operations are related to the semiconductor industry.

The Sumitomo Electric Group currently has a total of 48 manufacturing and sales companies in North and South America. We promote local production for local consumption in the Americas region, especially with respect to automotive wiring harnesses.
In the future, we expect growing demand in the US for products that support initiatives in renewable energy, such as redox flow batteries, and for products that are essential to infocommunications, such as fiber optic cables and connectors for data centers and gallium nitride devices for mobile communications. As these products are part of our long-term business focus, we look forward to actively promoting their benefits to current and potential business partners.
