Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (Tokyo: 5802) (ISIN: JP3407400005) announces the introduction of the TRU2640, its advanced remote radio head (RRH) designed for use in Time Division-Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) networks, following the release of the FRU2180 for Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) LTE networks in June 2011. With a compact lightweight body under 15 kg and 20 L, the TRU2640 has a total output power of 40 W, and helps telecommunications operators reduce both their capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operating expenditures (OPEX).

Telecommunications operators are increasingly required to expand their coverage and capacity to meet customer needs. For these operators, it is vital to deliver strong signals to a large given area, and thus, many operators deploy RRHs in their base stations. As the base stations increase in number, any OPEX and CAPEX savings for a base station create considerable difference in their bottom line.

The TRU2640 has a high power efficiency of 20%, weighs less than 15 kg, and operates in the 2.6 GHz band, the most commonly used band for TD-LTE systems. Requiring smaller backup power systems, the TRU2640 saves on monthly electric costs and simplifies inventory, resulting in the reduction of their CAPEX.

This high power efficiency, coupled with leading technology developed by Sumitomo Electric, enables the TRU2640 to be the most environmental-friendly RRH in the market, while maintaining the installation flexibility and performance. Available in 2x2, 2x4, 4x4 and 4x2 configurations, the TRU2640 meets and exceeds all specification requirements contained in the 3GPP standards.

The TRU2640 also offers optional support for multi-carrier operation, which enables operators to expand capacity in the future without truck rolls or tower climbs. Supporting a standard Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI), this RRH offers a blend of standards implementation and industry leading performance. "We understand the demand that operators have faced to provide better coverage and capacity for their networks. For the operators who wish to balance performance and cost while providing desired coverage and capacity, our RRH product lines, the TRU2640 in particular, have been designed to address both OPEX and CAPEX concerns" said Dr. Hiroshi Hamada, General Manager of the Strategic Planning Department, Network Systems Division at Sumitomo Electric.

With its long history in the wireless infrastructure industry and its rich technology portfolio, Sumitomo Electric has delivered high-performance products at affordable price. The TRU2640 is Sumitomo Electric's latest RRH product that provides excellent performance and installation flexibility at reasonable price.
