Rail Business Days 2024: Stadler presents the latest FLIRT EMU for Serbian Railways

The "Rail Business Days", an annual international trade fair and conference, focusing on the railway industry, infrastructure, and logistics is kicking off in Ostrava, Czechia. Stadler is exhibiting on the tracks of the event the newest FLIRT electrical-multiple-unit train produced for the Serbian Railways. The 18 ordered vehicles will be operated on tracks throughout Serbia, improving the regional transport, and showcase a state-of-the-art technology.

At the end of 2021, the Serbian Railways (Srbija Voz) and Stadler signed an agreement for the delivery of 18 FLIRT innovative electrical multiple units for operation on regional routes in all Serbia. This follow-up purchase is the third contract Stadler has signed with the Serbian Railways and has been made after the first order of the 21 FLIRT in 2014 and the second for three high- speed KISS train fleets in 2015. Not only commercially, but also among passengers, both vehicle types had been well-received because of their comfort and reliability. The latest order of trains will supplement the existing fleet of Stadler vehicles run by Serbian Railways. The vehicles were designed by engineers from the Stadler engineering office in Prague, Czech Republic. The contract is being implemented at the Stadler plant in Siedlce, Poland.

Eight of the 18 ordered vehicles were already delivered to Serbia. The first two units are currently undergoing trial operation on the Serbian railway infrastructure. The process involve observed drives with passengers (30 days or 15,000 km). After positive completion of trial, the vehicles will be officially handed over to the carrier. The completion of the entire order is scheduled for end of April 2025.

FLIRT vehicles that will enrich the carrier's fleet are well-known and very popular among passengers. This best-selling Stadler model has already been sold in around 2,640 units and is in operation in 23 countries around the world.

More about the FLIRT for Serbian Railways

The FLIRT electrical multiple unit for Serbia features a lightweight aluminum structure, meeting the TSI and crashworthiness standards (EN 15227) and runs at a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The vehicle's design puts the emphasis on low energy consumption and ease of operation. It was built with environmentally-friendly materials, including water-based paints and a HVAC coolant. The single-deck train has a spacious entrance areas, allowing passengers to get on and off easily, particularly people with limited mobility or wheelchairs, bicycles or push-chairs. The vehicle is fitted with air-conditioning, interior and exterior CCTV, as well as visual and audio information systems. It features modern toilets and a platform to aid people with disabilities when boarding. To enhance on-board safety and security, passengers can speak directly to the driver using an intercom. Vehicles are made up of four-units, which are 80.7 m long, can accommodate up to 473 passengers, and have 244 seats. There is an area for first class passengers with comfortable seats, as well as areas for passengers with reduced mobility. The vehicle has large luggage racks.

Stadler at Rail Business Days 2024

Stadler is exhibiting at its stand in the Hall A09. The new FLIRT electrical multiple unit for Serbian Railways is displayed on track K12. Its official presentation is set for the 12. June at 14:30. The admission is free of charge.
